Discouraged Dieting

Howdy, John here. For any of you who may have been following, I have challenged myself to see abs by summer. You know, the nice chiseled six-pack that any “real” personal trainer should have. Did I mention that I am technically a certified personal trainer? Well, let me tell you, I have hit more than one stumbling block.

First of all, Tim and Lily are the nicest folks anyone could ever meet, and they own a donut shop not far from our office. They are not taking off this year, so they are an ever present thought in my mind. Actually, the thought more often turns to action, and I get breakfast tacos and one donut…then they add at least one bonus donut, and Johnny doesn’t waste food.

Another setback I’ve had was the workouts are just not engaging to me right now. I thought I would be more apt to do bodyweight, boxing, and general calisthenics, since I can do all of that in our office. Truth is, it’s just not fun to me. Yeah, I know it isn’t always supposed to be fun, but if you don’t enjoy it, you’re not prone to keep up with it. I do like boxing. As a matter of fact, kickboxing with my nephew’s class was some of the most fun I’ve had.

Well, I reacquainted myself with the Warehouse Gym, and I realized I had missed it terribly. It’s a dusty, rusty, often hot, sometimes really cold, metal thrashing home. Zach and Sharon are the best, and make it hard to not want to be there. Inline with my goals, I have changed my training style somewhat. I am not (at least for now) training to lift as heavy as possible for one repetition, ala powerlifting. I will try to share some of what I am doing now on our YouTube.

So, finally that leads me to the point. You have to like what you do to get the most of it. That can apply to most things. For me, I have found that I like being outside more than anything (one reason I love the Warehouse Gym). I have always preferred to be outside. That is one reason our YouTube channel will now feature many more exciting things. We hope to cover fishing, golf, sailing, baseball, etc. We are proud to be sponsored by myfishingspot.com and look forward to a great partnership with them. They are a curator of content about fishing, including everything from instructions for beginners, to news, to interesting videos. They also have a small shopping page with some of the best gear. Please check them out and support our supporters.

Getting out more, moving more, and changing my type of training to something more fun to me is the new strategy. I just spoke with a friend, who is also on a weight loss journey, and I am even more encouraged to keep at it. Follow New Beginnings Performance on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Please comment any of your thoughts or ideas. We would love to hear from you.
